Our Sephora Clean Beauty Haul

Clean beauty is on the rise, more natural, organic, and vegan products are all coming out from all kinds of different beauty brands. And so in honor of all natural excitement, I collaborated with Atiya from The Bloom Blog and put together a collection of clean beauty products to try out and review for you all! :)

so what does ‘clean beauty’ even mean?

When a beauty product is referred to as ‘clean’, it means that the ingredients used to produce that particular product have been ethically sourced and there is no presence of toxic chemicals/ingredients.

PREP -  PRIMING SPRAY + MOISTURIZER : Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Essence Spray + Korres Pomegranate Moisturizing & Balancing Cream-Gel

Overall Review: Scented - both smelled strongly of the ingredients mentioned. The Floral Essence Spray smelled of roses, was a little sticky after drying & did not cause irritation on Atiya’s skin. The cream-gel smelled of a pomegranate, with a moisturizing but thinned out consistency (“watery”). The cream-gel did not cause any irritations on either Atiya’s or my one skin.

FACE - FOUNDATION : Josie Maran Vibrancy Argan Oil Foundation Fluid in ‘Reverent’ & ‘Magical’
After finding that the foundation we chose really gave off a more dewy appearance, I really kept that in mind, enhancing Atiya’s natural beauty. Instead of using regular, tinted powder, I only applied enough translucent powder (Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder) to set the face without deterring the dewy finish of the foundation.

Overall Review: Light weight, slightly tacky when it dries, dewy finish.

FACE - BLUSH : Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek in ‘Quickie’
Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek in ‘Quickie’ was creamy and very pigmented despite its sheer finish. I applied a subtle amount on the apples of the cheeks to give off a lively glow on the skin instead of that stand out pop. When applied, it was surprisingly not as dark or as purple compared to its initial appearance in packaging.

Overall Review: Sheer but pigmented and buildable. Creamy, light weight but can fade throughout the day.

FACE - HIGHLIGHT : Milk Makeup Liquid Strobe in ‘Beam - Gold’
We applied this product in the corners of the eyes to make them pop more & appear wider. Application on the cheek bone needed to be done a little quicker because the product dried a little too quickly on the skin. The small specks of glitter made it a little harder to even out the shimmer on the skin as well. But wow, that shimmer was definitely SHIMMERING.

Overall Review: Tacky, difficult to blend. Large specks of glitter but glitter definitely shimmers! Buildable - better when product is built up, especially on the eyelids.

FACE - BRONZER : Milk Makeup Matte Bronzer in ‘Blaze - Deep Bronze’
Bronzer was applied to the contours of the nose, the temples, and below the cheek bone to enhance the effects of the blush and dewy foundation on the apples of the cheeks.

Overall Review: Creamy, blendable, and buildable. Light weight, and deep pigment matches the shade in the packaging during application.

EYES - LASHES : Josie Maran Argan Oil Black Oil Mascara
Atiya’s lashes were already so beautiful on their own and so the effects of the Argan oil Mascara were really able to enhance her beauty by lengthening each strand. The mascara was not clumpy and did not irritate her eyes (which was something she really emphasized to me).

Overall Review: Light weight & does not clump. Lengthens but does not voluminize.

LIPS : Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek in ‘Quickie’
Milk Makeup’s Lip + Cheek product applied well on the lips and really gave Atiya’s lips a tinted, glossy finish. I applied the tint on my lips as well and I can confirm that it’s great as a tinted moisturizing lippie.

FACE - BLUSH : Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek in ‘Quickie’
I re-applied this product & built it up to make it darker to stand out more. The product was definitely buildable and the difference was so noticable!

EYES - BRONZER + HIGHLIGHTER : Milk Makeup Matte Bronzer + Liquid Strobe
To deepen the look, we applied bronzer to the lids! To create a contrast & give definition, I added the liquid highlighter to make the eyes pop more.

LIPS : Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek in ‘Quickie’
And of course, what was done on the cheeks, was done on the lips as well.
ProTip: Line your lips with a burgandy/purple lip liner for longer color stay!

Minimal Makeup : Tips + Tricks

Here are some tips & tricks I’ve learned from my personal minimal makeup journey that I feel like anyone can use!

Take care of your complexion.
First thing’s first: healthy diets = healthy skin.
Everyone’s skin is different, but we all need the same things to keep our skin healthy. Yes, you can go out and try to find the best foundation or concealer to cover things up, but none of that can cover the fact that what truly makes you feel beautiful & confident about yourself are those healthy diet & healthy habits (which of course, can be enhanced by a good skin care routine).

Brows. Lashes. Lips. Cheek. (BLLC “Black”)

AKA my personal formula for accomplishing a minimal “natural” makeup look.
Brows are what frames the face, right? So I fill them in, but don’t make them bolder than my look. I try to really set the tone of my look with brows ;)
Lashes. Honestly, I have none, so I have to lengthen & voluminize. So lengthen & voluminize, people!
Lips are wonderful because you can go natural or bold! It doesn’t matter which way you go because the rest of the look is minimal anyway!
Cheeks. Blush and/or highlighter can really finish the look off (along with the lips). I pack an amount of blush or highlighter depending on how much I want my whole look to POP.

What is Clean Beauty?

As someone who loves anything beauty related, I’ve really noticed a shift in beauty through the kind of products that brands have been coming out with. Brands like Milk Makeup and Glossier really made their way into the makeup bags of thousands, marketing simple, minimal but still very high quality products.

If you’ve been a part of the YouTube beauty community for as long as I have, then you know probably have noticed the shift in beauty I’m talking about. Many more are appreciating a minimal “natural” look contrasting that of previous years’ full face/full coverage trends.

Truly enhancing the natural beauty we all have has been the core of this movement & with more of our youth applying makeup during earlier stages of life, I think it’s important as ever to return to the basics of beauty and to keep in mind that we should also be better consumers while we’re at it.

If you haven’t yet, head over to The Bloom Blog’s post & check out what she’s got to say about clean beauty!

Until next time ;)
