Know the Blogger: Who is Marr?
If you haven't already read the footer yet, my name is Marr & I am the creator of OH MY MARR. As a subscriber to other beauty & lifestyle blogs, I always go straight to the creator's page to get to know them. I've always thought that putting a face to the words I'm reading really enhances the author's presence in each post that I read & knowing more about him or her helps me understand their perspective on a certain topic. It's also just fun getting to know new people, understanding them, and discovering new things to explore through their experiences.
So here are 5 things about me!
1. I'm a Filipina-American.
I'm incredibly proud of my Philippine heritage. It's where I came from and if I ever have a family in the future, I'm bringing all the Pinoy Pride into my home, especially through language (and food. Duh).
2. I'm Bilingual.
Yes, I know how to speak Tagalog. It was my first language. A lot of people are surprised when I tell them I can still speak because Filipino-Americans who are around my age & have a similar background no longer can. I'm so glad that my parents almost always never spoke to me in English at home until high school. Even now, they still really don't because they know I can still fully understand them. It's the best way for me to connect with my parents and I am so grateful.
3. I love my faith.
I'm Roman Catholic. I find hope in prayer. I find joy in going to Mass & helping others through what means I can. I like to go visit during Adoration. I love Bible studies. I was in a catholic sorority. I believe there is good in all people and also bad. I try to live out my faith as best as I can. Shoot, I wanted to be a nun at one point & my friends knew about it too (but I've come to realize that that was not the vocation I was being called to do). Most importantly, no matter who you are or what you believe in, I believe that love- at its purest- is unfathomably powerful and should be spread to all of the Earth.
4. Fashion is an art to me.
I mean, it really is. I always tell people, that "you can buy fashion but you can never buy style." When I was little, I wanted to be a fashion designer or a fashion magazine photographer. I loved my sparkles (I still do). I love different textures & different colors. It's so fascinating to see how diverse each part can be then put together to make a beautiful and wearable (or not so wearable) piece. It's also intriguing to see how others express themselves with personal fashion. I don't think there are rules, it's whatever is appealing to the eye & there's so much possibility in that. [Side note: I do not believe that animals should be used in order to make fashion. #TeamFaux]
5. I'm a broke college student.
What more can I say. I go to school. I'm a science major and it's tough. I don't know how I'm still alive because I've lost so much sleep in the last 3 years of undergrad. I was a dental assistant for a while & my time at the clinic was wonderful but the commute was a killer. Still, undergrad is probably the best part of my life. I'm grateful for the struggle.
I think those are the main points, I hope to get to know more of you all too! Send me a quick comment or suggestion and/or subscribe so we can do this blog thing together!
